An apology re: Konnexion Festival

An apology re: Konnexion Festival

Firstly I would like to apologize to everyone who came to see me at Konnexion Music Festival in Idaho on Saturday. I am sorry I was unable to play my set as planned but the circumstances were beyond my control. I feel I owe you an explanation for what happened.

Everything seemed to be going fine during Longwalkshortdock’s live show. I was really getting into it and couldn’t wait to go on next. Just as I started my first track, the sound guy, who called himself the Wizard of the Bass, told me that he had to turn the sound down on the mixer while he fixed something. Fair enough, I am used to the sound needing to be rebalanced between live setups and DJ setups. But ten minutes later the Wizard turned the volume so low that I could hear people’s conversations on the dance floor and everyone was complaining about the volume. The stage manager got angry and demanded the Wizard turn the volume back up. At this point the Wizard began acting strangely running around saying that something smelled funny and asking if anybody else could smell it? There were no weird odors on stage. I was beginning to think that the Wizard may have been taking part in some magic potions or snorting some fairy dust of his own. He began randomly pulling cables from speakers and amps trying to find the smell. As he did this, speakers on the main floor went silent. I turned my monitors towards the dance floor so that the remaining fans could at lest hear some music while the sound guy continued to lose the plot.

The Wizard then started screaming at the stage manager, myself, the visuals guy and anyone else who would listen that we had ruined his sound system. Suddenly the entire dome went pitch black as all power went out. The Wizard in his psychotic rage had run behind the stage to the generator and began randomly pulling out cables, including soldered cables, inside the generator. Witnesses saw security catch him still tearing up pieces of the generator and screaming “there would be no more sound that he would make it stop”. He was eventually removed from the event by security.

In hindsight, there had been warning signs. Quiet time at the festival was between 6am and 10am – however at 6:30am that morning, the sound in the Dome came on full volume blasting gangsta rap. It was the sound guy dressed in a wizard’s costume dancing on stage. He refused to turn off the music saying he was “The Wizard of the Bass”. He fought off the promoters and security as long as he could saying that it was his sound system and this is what makes him “The Wizard”.

I feel really bad for the people that were in the amazing Dome Vizion enjoying the music and visuals and I feel horrible for the promoters of this event for the time, energy and creativity that they put not making this a special experience. Myself, I am very disappointed that I did not get to finish my set and especially for my fans who had traveled long distances to this outdoor event.
The Konnexion Festival itself was fantastic. I heard some awesome music, saw some great art and met lots of really creative people.

I just thought the fans that came needed an explanation for the events in the Dome Vizion stage and for the rest of you it would be a funny little story of good wizards gone bad.
